Christmas decoration morning

Thanks to everyone who came this morning to help year 4 get festive, our classroom looked like the glitter fairy had paid a visit but we liked it, one child said it looked like a disco dance floor!

I may be biased but Year 4 looks the most Christmassy classroom in the whole of the school!

Here are some photos, can you spot the photo bomber??

Poetry Learning Log

What a pleasure it was reading all of your lovely poetry, and really nice to see so many of you writing a variety of types, well done!

Also an apology for my mistake, I mixed the Haiku and Cinquain syllables up, so well observed if you noticed that one!

Here are some examples of the year 4 poetry learning logs;

What is your favourite type of poem?

Remembrance Day

This year, as a way to show our respect to those who are and have served our country, each class made a poppy wreath.
Our Year 4 wreath was made up of an individual poppy made by every member of our class.
Here are some photos of the laid wreaths in the assembly;

Ours is the large one on the floor on the right.

This is Mrs Longhawn's clay poppy from the Tower of London, it is very beautiful!

Also Mrs Longhawn's assembly was extremely moving, telling us the history about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Finally, thank you to everyone for being so respectful during the 2 minute silence.

This morning our whole school took part in the Big Draw (link to website; http://www.thebigdraw.org) this years theme was to draw a picture that told a story.

So laden with a large piece of plain paper, a pencil and some coloured pencils year 4 set about drawing pictures that told a story, here are some examples, can you tell what story they are telling?

What story did your picture tell?

Black History Month

October is Black History Month and as part of this we have looked at an African American artist called Jacob Lawrence, he painted a series of 60 slides depicting the African American migration from the south of America to the north, here is a link to a website showing his work;

http://www.phillipscollection.org/migration_series/index.html

We drew our own versions of the migration series, here are some examples;

In the south the black people had to work in the fields so the white people.

When the people migrated north the homes were cramped.

There were different water fountains for the black and white people.

During the Red Summer, white people bombed the black peoples homes.

An example of segregation.

I was so impressed by the children's work, what part of the series did you draw?
