Maths: Angles

This morning we learned about angles. We learned different ways to remember the names of the different types of angles.
Mrs Gray taught us that 'Obtuse angles are obviously bigger than 90 degrees'
Miss Kitchen taught us that 'Acute angles are those small, cute ones which are smaller than 90 degrees'.
We also stated to learn how to use an protractor to measure accurately.

Have a look at the learning activities we did.

Explanation texts.

What makes this an explanation video?

It uses correct language.

It started with an introduction.

It included details to make it more interesting.

It had a conclusion.

It explains what it is and how the machine works. It even includes the noises that the machine makes.

It explains how the machine was made and what it is made out of.

It describes the shirts that it can make and how they work.

It tells us about the person that invented the machine.

It gives a time period.

It has thought about the audience - aimed at children.

Its purpose is clear.

It is told in chronological order.

Tutankahmun

Today we learned that Howard Carter was the person who discovered the pharoahs tomb. We took a walk in his shoes and found out what it must have been like to be him. Have a look at the photos below to see what was in our tomb. What do you expect you would have found in Tutenkahun's tomb?

Topic multifaceted learning

This afternoon we worked on a range of topic areas.

We discussed what it was like to persevere. We decided that persevering was about not quitting or giving in; it was about trying hard to overcome whatever barriers there were that was making our learning tricky.

We wrote information texts about Ancient Egypt including headings, sub-headings, captions and pictures.

We also worked on our watercolour skills. We practised using the brushes in different ways and using different amount of water to create different effects.

I enjoyed all our learning this afternoon Year 4; did you?

Marvellous measuring!

Today Year 4 used their measuring skills using a range of measuring equipment; they used tape measures, rulers, and metre rulers. They estimated as closely to the actual measurement as they could and then measured to the nearest centimetre.

Afterwards, they used these measuring skills in a 'real life problem solving' context. They used subtraction to find the difference between some of the measurements. Well done Year 4; you worked so hard!

Our first topic lesson of 2015

Here are some photographs from this afternoons multifaceted learning.
We were recording our observations using a range of techniques; learning about the qualities of living things and discussing barriers to learning and creating a piece of drama around breaking down those barriers.
